Engine priming proc.

Post Fly182 »

Hi, I've a question. I prime the engine according to the manual. Why I have to pull back the mixture just before ignition? Why I can't leave it full forward?
Thanks

I think the short answer is the increased possibility of flooding during the start. If you leave the mixture rich, then as the engine is turned by the starter the engine driven pump is adding still more fuel on top of your prime. Just a guess, though.
