It,s been a while need some help to get flying

Post Buddye »

Hi , I got my old windows 7 PC going to try to run BOBII.

I have hit a issue:

I get the following Dialog message after installing V13 which installed OK. During the install of the Directx 9c, I got:

Directx setup

Setup could not download file. Please try later or check network connection. The network connection is working as I have gotten to this web site and downloaded V13.

BTW, when I install BOBII and do the Directx install at the end, the game works. At least for IA, which is all I have tried. When I try the V13 install I get:
BoB EXE - system error

The program can't start because d3dx9_35.dll is missing from your computer. Try installing the program to fix the problem.

I hope I can get V13 working.

Thanks for any help,
Buddye

Hi Scott,

I am doing great. My wife is also well. Thanks for the help. I got everything running now and V13 looks good. I hope you and your family are doing good.

My big problem is Alt-X at end of mission just freezes the game. I have also forgot the keys and setup for the BDG.txt but I will get there.

Does anyone have a link to the BOB@ User Manual?

Hello sir, the manual should be in the docs folder in the main game folder if that's the one. I'm sure you'll have it firing on all cylinders in no time!

I have this system running good now (for its age). I have BOBII setup the way I remember all those years ago. The problems I am having are few and can be worked around.

Sometimes when I do a ALT-X to return to the debrief screen, It hangs, and I have to do an control-alt-delter and start the task manager to stop BOBII, and then restart BOBII.

My major issue is my skill level because I have forgotten so much information (too many years not flying BOBII).

I am having fun but the AI keeps killing me too quickly. :D

My old Alienware PC (specs shown at the bottom) was gathering dust running windows 10 so I just installed from DVD windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit) which came with the Alienware PC. I think I can fly until it breaks. The only thing I needed to do was install FireFox so I could get on internet. Of course, Windows 7 is not supported so I cannot get help or updates.

It is a real shame that I cannot run BobII on my new gaming PC which is windows 11. I see no way to do it cheap and fast.

Thanks for the help.

Opera and Pale Moon are two browsers that should be usable and maybe helpful with updating Win7.

Hi Buddye,

It's great to see you and the wife are okay, and it certainly has been a long time.

I see Boreas has directed you were to find the manual.

If you can PM me with your email address. I do have a copy of Windows7_SP1_6.1-kb976932-X64.exe.
I think it should update your version. I can zip it up and email it to you

As for me. I have not been able to use BoB since having to replace a motherboard which only takes USB mouse and keyboard. I could not get Windows 7 to see either the mouse or the keyboard so was unable to do a dual boot with Windows 10/11.

Hi Prem,

As I noted in a different thread, I got BoB kind of working in Windows 11:

- I got it (V2.13) somehow working in Windows10 a long time ago, with infrequent crashes to desktop.

- After upgrade of my laptop (has Nvidia graphics) to Windows11, it looked as if it was finally broken, but I tried reinstalling the V2.13 again, and after some rounds in the Windows compatibility troubleshooter (Windows 7 compatibility mode, run as administrator, nothing else selected in the compatibility properties) it runs like on Windows10, i.e. you can fly instant missions, with infrequent crashes to desktop.

- Important: disable ALL videos in the BDG.txt configuration file

Kind regards,
